So who’s Yoochun? Let us go into his history….
Yoochun was born and raised in Seoul till his family immigrated to Fairfax, Virginia, United States when he was in his sixth grade. He attended Middle School and High School there till he was scouted by Brothers Entertainment and went back to Korea to join SM Entertainment.

During his stay in Virginia, it wasn’t an American Dream for Yoochun. His parents divorced so he and his younger brother, Ricky Park Yoohwan depended alot on each other during their stay there.

After arriving in Seoul, Yoochun only took 6 months to debut under TVXQ in 2003. Soon after, he fetched Yoohwan and his mother back to Seoul to stay in the house that he bought for them.
Yoochun is probably the TVXQ member with the most self composed songs under his belt. After learning piano on his own, he even taught fellow member, Jaejoong, how to play the piano and the duo have been making awesome music together ever since! Since Yoochun is the most fluent in English among the members, almost all of the english rap and singing parts for the earlier albums were all sung by Micky.
Micky has written and composed several songs that have appeared on TVXQ’s Korean and Japanese albums. As a member of SM Town, he contributed to the 2007 winter album Only Love with his composition “Evergreen”. Micky also wrote and composed “Sarang Annyeong Sarang (Love Bye Love)” (사랑 안녕 사랑), featured on the group’s fourth Korean studio album Mirotic. For the Trick project, he wrote the lyrics to his solo “My Girlfriend”, entirely in English. “Kiss the Baby Sky”, one of the A-side’s for TVXQ’s twenty-fifth Japanese single, marked the first time that one of the songs both written and composed by Micky was released on a Japanese single

With band-mates U-Know and Xiah, Micky wrote the rap lyrics to “Love After Love”, which appeared on their second Korean studio album, Rising Sun. For the group’s Japanese releases, Micky wrote and co-composed “Kiss Shita Mama, Sayonara” (Kissしたまま、さよなら lit. As We Kiss, Goodbye) with Hero for T, TVXQ’s third Japanese album. In September 2009, he and Hero released a self-written duet, “Colors (Melody and Harmony/Shelter)”, which was used as the image song for Hello Kitty’s 35th anniversary. Kiss Shita Mama Sayonara has been one of my favourite DBSK song ever since. Its soulful melody just makes you tear whenever you hear them perform it LIVE.

His musical career continually expressed even after the contractual issues of TVXQ. Micky was able to compose in the new albums of JYJ. In the JYJ’s first international album, “The Beginning”, which was released in 2010, Micky contributed by composing one of the tracks – “I Love You”. Even in their new musical book called “The Music Essay – Their Room”, Micky played role as composer & lyrists in the song called “Nameless Song Part.1”. In addition, he also did rap making in the Xiah Junsu’s song – “Mission” which left Junsu in awe as Yoochun only used 15minutes to come up with the rap.

Other than being outstandingly musically talented, Yoochun has since branched into acting, gaining praises from many crtitics for his professional attitude and constantly improving acting skills.

His first acting debut in Korea was in 2010 through the period KBS drama, SungKyunKwan Scandal that caught the hearts of viewers both local and international. He portrays Lee Seon Joon: a rich, smart student who falls in love with a woman who is disguised as a man. He has received the “Rookie of the Year award”, “Netizens award” and “Best Couple award” at the 2010 KBS Drama Awards ceremony.

However, Yoochun was actually not new to acting as prior to that, Yoochun also appeared on Televised shows, Banjun Theatre and Vacation with the rest of TVXQ. He even had a successful debut in Japan with the mobile drama by BeeTV Drama <Beautiful Love ~君がいれば~ (Beautiful Love ~ If you were here ~). He played the main male figure – Young Soo – who is the heir of the rich company.

Currently, he is filming in the MBC drama Miss Ripley with Lee Da-hae as Song Yoo Hyun, the warm and gentle heir of a Korean-Japanese hotel conglomerate. The show is still being broadcasted in Korea every Mon and Tues at 9.55PM and is expected to end their run on 19 July 2011. Yoochun even contributed his vocals to record a track for the OST, “너를 위한 빈자리 – A space left for you” and the drama has been enjoying consistent high ratings for the past few episodes.

Even just being a newbie at acting, he bagged down many awards at the KBS Awards show last year and I’m sure he will do even better this year! Here’s the list of awards so far:

  • 2001 American Singing Competition (Virginia): Best Artist of the Competition
  • 2003 KBN Teens Singing Competition: Special Award
  • 2010 KBS Drama Awards: Rookie of the Year (Sungkyunkwan Scandal)
  • 2010 KBS Drama Awards: Netizens Award (Sungkyunkwan Scandal)
  • 2010 KBS Drama Awards: Best Couple Award ( with Park Min Young from Sungkyunkwan Scandal)
  • 2011 47th Paeksang Arts Award: Best Male Rookie Award
  • 2011 47th Paeksang Arts Award: Popularity Award

Yoochun is sort of a family man and he is very attached to his family. In 2009, he opened “Timeout Gelato shop” for his mum and till now, still wears the very first bracelet that his brother gave him when he made his debut. Also, he’s the only member who’s living with his family with HoMin living together and JaeSu living alone. Recently, he also bought a car for Yoohwan to celebrate his acting debut.

Other interesting facts about Yoochun? He never fails to cheer the fans with his cute and funny antics. He’s never afraid to make funny faces in front of the TV and is very true to his personality!

yoochun just being the dork that he is :)

Yoochun is also known to be a fashionista and he’s definitely the member with the MOST hairstyle changes. Check them out!
From the HUG days to the BALLOONS days…

Extremely short hair during the 2nd Asia Tour “O” concert with <Saving Private Ryan> inspired hairstyle!

Japanese promotions!

Mirotic period! I got to admit I wasn’t really a supporter of this hairstyle when it was first revealed. Even calling it names like “mushroom-style” but Kudos to yoochun for being able to pull this look off so perfectly!

Boyish look:

There were hits and misses but he is really very daring! Plus, you’ve got to admit, how can he make a somewhat disastrous hairstyle still look okay or even nice on him?!

Also, yoochun was one of the pioneers in the wear show without socks, fold up pants and bowl haircut trends. He really is a trendsetter and is also well known for his chic airport fashion.

In order to celebrate Yoochun’s birthday, how could all the twitterbirds miss out on this?

Other than being a fashionista, singer, songwriter, actor and just being an awesome entertainer, Yoochun also taught Cassiopeia about perseverance, about holding on to your dreams, about never giving up.

He taught us to “Always Keep the faith”.

Whenever I hear yoochun saying this phrase, I get more motivated than ever.

All we Cassies around the world are holding on to this phrase and believing that the 5 will reunite as 1 again one day.

Happy Birthday Yoochun!
